History

Jim Mudgett Jr. started in the auto repair industry in 1980. For many years he was hands-on, working inside the body shop. He quickly learned how to do body repairs, paint repairs, frame repairs and mechanical repairs to many different vehicles.

After a time he began working in the office side of the business. He learned how to build relationships with customers, insurance companies and dealers to quickly expand the amount of work in the shop. Jim created processes that would last forever. He implemented processes on how cars should be repaired, how paperwork should be handled and how customers should be treated. Jim said, “process is one of the most important things to success in my business.”

Jim was simply born with a love and passion for the auto body business. Jim was co-owner of a shop in Carroll County, MD for over 30 years. He helped grow this business from the ground up. The shop grew to an 18,000 square foot facility with over 20 employees. Jim was in charge of everyday operations at the shop, he was a huge part of its success.

Today, Jim has over 35 years of experience. In 2014 Jim decided to branch off and start an auto body shop with his two sons Shane and Jimmy. He was excited to give his sons the opportunity to get into the business that he has loved for so long.

Jim, Shane, and Jimmy became business partners and opened the doors to Maryland Collision Center. Shane, (24) has worked in the auto body business for over 7 years. Just like his Father, he started by working on vehicles inside the shop. After 4 years in the shop, he began to learn the other side of the business. He has experience in all aspects. He spent time working as the parts manager and as a writer. Shane is a quick learner and now has tremendous amounts of knowledge in all aspects of the business. Jimmy, (27) decided to sharpen his pencil and hit the classroom at Mount St. Mary’s University. He graduated in 2009 with a business degree in marketing and management. Jimmy now has nearly 4 years experience in the business. He works alongside his Father and Brother in the office and also has a big part in the marketing and sales side of the business.
